佛教中，农历七月是孝亲报恩，祈福修善的月份之一，所以也被称为“孝道月”、”功德月”或“报恩月”。
此尊神像后来由三宝佛光寺创办人林秋福居士从泰国恭请回国，供奉于本寺，作为主尊神明，广结善缘。
水灯节起源于 800 多年前的泰国素可泰王朝。当时，每年泰国农历十五月圆之夜，居民们都会聚集在首都庆祝 “灯节”。
